What influences profitability?
The profitability of a PV system depends on several factors:
1. Eigenverbrauchsquote
The higher the self-consumption, the more economical. Optimal for commercial businesses: 60-80%
2. Strompreis
Every self-consumed kWh saves electricity costs. With commercial electricity prices of 25-35 cents/kWh highly attractive.
3. Anlagengröße
Larger systems have lower specific costs (€/kWp). The 'sweet spot' is often at 50-200 kWp.
4. Standort & Ausrichtung
In Northern Germany: approx. 950-1,050 kWh/kWp/year. South orientation and optimal inclination increase the yield.
Practical example: 100 kWp with storage
Realistic profitability calculation for a commercial business:
Gewerbebetrieb mit 100 kWp PV + 100 kWh Speicher
Amortisationszeit
8 years
Rendite (IRR) über 20 Jahre
8-10%
Is battery storage worthwhile?
A battery storage system increases self-consumption and thus profitability – especially for businesses with electricity demand outside sunshine hours.
Vorteile eines Batteriespeichers
- ✓Self-consumption increases from 60% to 70-80%
- ✓Independence from electricity price fluctuations
- ✓Emergency power capability possible (with appropriate technology)
- ✓Attractive with high electricity prices (from 28 cents/kWh)
Storage systems currently pay for themselves in 10-14 years. With falling storage prices and rising electricity costs, profitability will further improve. Our tip: Use cheap direct imports!
