The subsidy ends. Your grid connection stays.

Grid-charged battery storage for biogas plants with an existing grid connection above 250 kW in Schleswig-Holstein.

Ausgangslage

The EEG subsidy ends after 20 years

Once the EEG subsidy period ends, the biogas plant drops out of the feed-in tariff. At the same time, an existing, metered grid connection above 250 kW becomes a scarce asset: as of 1 April 2026, the transmission system operators replaced the previous first-come-first-served approach with a criteria-based maturity assessment procedure that makes new grid connections considerably harder and slower to obtain. An existing connection with grandfathered rights gains value as a result.

new grid connection allocation procedure

Rules differ by grid level and grid operator. We check the specific situation for your connection.

What a grid-charged storage system changes at an existing grid connection

  • Uses the existing grid connection instead of decommissioning after the subsidy ends
  • Revenue from electricity market trading instead of unused connection capacity
  • Become a storage operator instead of feeding the biogas plant: no substrate, no silage, no daily trips to the plant
  • Revenue without feedstock and substrate price risk, land is freed up
  • Under the new allocation procedure, an existing grid connection is practically impossible to obtain again – the grandfathered status is the real asset
  • Remotely supervised operation: remote monitoring and ongoing supervision instead of round-the-clock plant readiness

Guideline value. What matters is the actually available connection capacity of your plant. We check it against your data.

Depending on connection capacity, storage size and marketing revenue. The analysis shows what is achievable for your operation.

Planning, installation and commissioning from a single source

We size the grid-charged storage system to match your existing grid connection. One point of contact stays responsible throughout the entire project.

01Assessment of grid connection and available space
02Sizing of storage capacity and economics
03Installation, commissioning, grid registration
04Remote monitoring and service

Three steps to the economic analysis

01Initial conversation about plant, grid connection and subsidy status
02Assessment of grid connection, available space and technical connection concept
03Economic analysis with concrete figures for your operation

The analysis and the grid connection request are chargeable services; the scope is agreed in advance. Not financial advice.
